There were 2 meetings scheduled in Taj Coromandel, Mumbai. First one between BCCI members (including Sharad ‘Super’ Pawar and oldies of Indian cricket) to select the new coach and the other between UPA & Left regarding their presidential candidate. But by some grievous mistake by the hotel officials, both meetings were booked in the same conference hall.
Sharad Pawar: What nonsense is this? When Ford was here last week, he agreed to take up the post. But what happened to him all of a sudden?
Prakash Karat: Who is Forddddddd??? We were not told about this. What respect are we getting? This is a great insult. Everyone walkout (Everybody gets up)
M. Karunanidhi: Wait Karat. You should not be so emotional. Let us analyze the candidate and then come to a decision.
Gavaskar: Whatever it is? How can a foreigner be selected? What are we guys doing here then? (Looks at Ravi Shastri and Venkatraghavan)
PK: Foreigner? Oh my God. This is absurd. How can we tolerate this?
SP: Yes even I am a little reluctant to select a foreigner for the post. But we have nobody who are qualified here.
(Loud murmur among the ex-cricketers and UPA leaders)
Sonia Gandhi: This is an insult to the Indian society known for its erudition and knowledge. But when suitable talent is found in a foreign country why should we not consider it?
PK: We cannot accept whatever Soniaji says. We cannot accept UPA decision! (Again they try to walkout)
MK: Patience, patience! Why are you getting angry? There is no question of a foreigner here. We have already shortlisted 3 Indians for the post. This discussion is unprecedented
(Puzzled looks among the ex-cricketers)
Ravi Shastri: What is this man saying? We were not informed about anything. (Looking at Sharad Pawar) What is all this about?
SP: I do not know anything
MK: What are you saying? Anyway. I feel the real contention is only between Bhairon Singh Shekawat and Shivraj Patil. What do you all feel?
SG: Tell me one good reason, why these two were shortlisted? How many tests have they played? How many centuries have they scored? Do you know about my test career?
MK: Life is a test. I am also aiming at a century. Which century you are talking about? Haah… I am in politics from the last century (smiles…)
RS: I don’t understand what is going on.
PK: OK. We unanimously agree with MK and decide to support Bhairon Singh Shekawat for the post. (All Left party members applaud)
SP: (With a confused look on his face). OK. Then Bhairon Singh Shekawat will be new coach of the Indian cricket team!!
